Name: Spaced-Out Invaders (1995)
License: Freeware Author: PLBM Games Category: Flight Shooter Description: The original Space Invaders was released by Taito in Japan and North America in 1978. Eighteen years later, Spaced-Out Invades (aka "Kurt's Spaced Invaders" in an earlier version) was released for MS-DOS. And ... yeah, it's pretty much the same game. There is a slightly more colorful background, and some SoundBlaster sound effects, but no one would mistake this for any other game. It plays well enough and isn't super difficult, so if you like Space Invaders, then maybe try this. Install command: $> sudo pacman -S dosbox-spaced-out_invaders
Name: Striker (1985)
License: Freeware Author: Derek Williams Category: Flight Shooter Description: Striker is an arcade-style helicopter shooting game, with CGA graphics and five missions to complete. It's somewhat similar in style to the arcade game Scramble. This game gives you both bullets and bombs to destroy obstacles, as you fly through several similar-looking missions to pick up spies, drop them off, etc. You'll need to carefully land your helicopter at the end of the level, but thankfully it's pretty easy. The game plays well enough and is quite simple. You can reconfigure the keys by pressing "O" at the title screen, then pressing "K" to adjust keyboard settings. Install command: $> sudo pacman -S dosbox-striker
Name: Space Commanders (1983)
License: Freeware Author: Columbia Data Products Category: Flight Shooter Description: You have to blow up as many enemies as possible before they reach your spaceship. There are quite a few levels but the only real difference between them is a few new enemies replacing the first ones and that the difficulty is increasing a bit because they move a bit faster on each new level. Install command: $> sudo pacman -S dosbox-spacecom
Name: Xenon (1988)
License: Abandonware Author: Bitmap Brothers Category: Flight Shooter Description: As in most space shooters, you are in control of your ship and you move across the battlefield. One thing that is special in this game which differs it from other similar games in this genre is the fact that you can turn your flying ship into a land vehicle. That makes you capable of shooting land targets and also gives you the possibility to influence the movement of the battlefield. You can turn back and scroll the screen any way you want (however, that is not possible in the flying ship mode). Nice idea and also not very common in scrolling shooters. Install command: $> sudo pacman -S dosbox-xenon |
