Category: Adventure

Description: Goody is a fun 2D action/adventure platformer from Spanish developer Opera Soft. You play a small thief bent on robbing a Spanish bank. Before embarking on this venture, you’ll need to find appropriate tools for the job, including torch, pincers, etc. Once you gather all the necessary tools, you will be ready to launch the crime. But things are not as easy as they seem, of course. Along the way to the bank, you will have to avoid or deal with policemen, gorillas, kung-fu experts, weeping women, paper airplanes, and other obstacles in your way.

Name: Livingstone Supongo (1986)
License: Abandonware
Author: Opera Soft S.A.
Category: Adventure

Description: Livingstone Supongo (Livingstone I Presume in English) is arguably the best game released by prolific Spanish developer Opera Soft. The game is another release in the very popular “video adventure” genre (i.e. 2D action/adventure platform-style game), but it is leaps and bounds better than most of its competition due to large, complex gameworld, and many interesting gameplay features. The game casts you as Henry Stanley, the famed journalist who was sent on an expedition in 1871 to find legendary adventurer Dr. David Livingstone, who had been missing in Africa for three years. The name of the game is actually the phrase uttered by Stanley when he finally found Dr. Livingstone: “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?” Your task in the game is the same as Stanley in history: find Dr. Livingstone by navigating the treacherous jungles of Africa, and dealing with all manners of wildlife. The gameplay will be familiar to anyone who has played Goody, or other 2D adventure game. The game is much more action-oriented than Goody: you have 3 weapons and a pole in place of standard inventory items, which you will use often to defend yourself against hostile animals. Most “puzzles” consist of figuring out how to get from point A to B. Although this is a common gimmick in most complex platformers, although Livingstone implements them in an interesting and challenging way; one of the reasons the game is a lot of fun is that you never know what to expect in the next screen. Sharp graphics and excellent gameplay makes this one of the best 8-bit platformers you’ll likely find. Highly recommended!

Name: Shamus (1984)
License: Abandonware
Author: Synapse Software Corporation
Category: Adventure

Description: Early action/adventure game that is another oldie but goodie from Synapse, published by IBM in 1984.
According to MobyGames’ description, Shamus lets you "...explore over 120 rooms to find the evil enemy. Shamus is an exact combination of Adventure (the Atari 2600 game where you roam from room to room looking for items and avoiding the dragon) and Berzerk (the arcade maze game where you shoot robots and avoid Evil Otto). If you like those two games, you'll like Shamus. A diverse array of special items can also be picked up for points or extra men. It's fun for ten or twenty minutes, but gets frustrating at times, boring at others."
The bottom line: if you like either game that inspired this classic, you will like Shamus. If primitive gameplay in 4-color CGA graphics isn’t your cup of tea, then steer clear. In my opinion, it’s good for a few minutes of nostalgic fun, but doesn’t have the truly timeless gameplay (a la Alley Cat) to keep you entertained for long.

Although this is a graphical adventure, you won't control Larry with graphical interface, but you have use commands like "take", "use" or "open" and type these commands into command line.
